I don't see how an allegory can mean the whole of the Quran is wrong. The Bible has tons of incorrect and contradictions, go look at those.
Interesting twist: it seems nobody here claims Bible is right :) In fact Bible is so wrong on so many subjects that even fair amount of hardcore christians tend to separate from the Bible and promote New Testament as an "updated" source.
Islam is 600 years newer than Christianity and seems to have the same amount of errors in its major teaching. Does not seem as a major advantage in human knowledge
If proving the Quran wrong has gone astray -- to the point of debating allegories, let's explore the following:
Genesis (Chapter 19)

u idiot, the place of the settin of the sun does not mean literally that the sun set into some murky water. he travelled and reached a point where murky water was on his path and the sun set there. Have u ever watched a sun set near, say an ocean? It was like that.
The interpretation of the Quran cannot be taken as literally word-by-word.

To those who want to point finger to the Quran, to Islam. I’m going to prove to you about the truth of the Quran (regarding the story of Zul-qarnain)
They've taken that Ayah (sentence) from the whole story relating to it. It is like taking the sentence "He bears his sharp teeth" from the story of Red Riding Hood and without the whole story, how can that sentence have any meaning at all. No?
Let us see the full text of that Sura (Al-Kahf) that relates with that Ayah:

[18:83] They ask you about Zul-Qarnain. Say, "I will narrate to you some of his history."
[18:84] We granted him authority on earth, and provided him with all kinds of means.
[18:85] Then, he pursued one way.
[18:86] When he reached the far west, he found the sun setting in a vast ocean, and found people there. We said, "O Zul-Qarnain, you can rule as you wish; either punish, or be kind to them."
[18:87] He said, "As for those who transgress, we will punish them; then, when they return to their Lord, He will commit them to more retribution.
[18:88] "As for those who believe and lead a righteous life, they receive a good reward; we will treat them kindly."
[18:89] Then he pursued another way.
[18:90] When he reached the Far East, he found the sun rising on people who had nothing to shelter them from it.
[18:91] Naturally, we were fully aware of everything he found out.

Ok, the Quran says it is narrating what Alexander (Zulkarnain) saw and experience, when he pursues a way or a direction.
God granted him the power and the right to rule with just.
He pursued one way. Travelling to the far "west" until he saw where the sun set into the vast ocean. (Like when we see when we're on a beach). He met people here and God granted him the rights to rule them with just.
Then he pursued one way (another). Travelling to the far "east" he saw sun rise there. And meet people as well.
Naturally God understand of what he sees.
My points:
1) Now, let us put ourselves in the position of Alexander. 1) we thought earth is flat 2) he have no idea that earth rotate around the sun (true) or sun rotate around the earth, thus the only thing he know is that Sun rises and sets.
Base on his knowledge, Alexander wonder, why along the way he travels to the "west" he see the Sun sets in front (in the direction he travels), not anywhere else. And during his travel in that direction, the Sun rises from the back of him (in the direction he travels).
And when he travels to the "east", he see the Sun rises in front of him and the Sun sets to the back of him (He is facing the east).
Thus it can be concluded that the rising and setting of the Sun is not random but having a direction to where it sets and fixed.
Thus, God says He knows about it but Alexander doesn’t.
(We’re not discussing about the "people" he met in the story thus I didn't include them in the explanation)
This is one of the knowledge hidden behind (18:83 – 18:91).
2) If they want to argue about the sentence “he found the sun setting in a vast ocean” as a scientific error states by the Quran, then why not as well take “he found the sun rising on people who had nothing to shelter them from it” as a scientific error? Well they say Quran claims that the sun enters the vast ocean as it set, then the Quran must have as well claims that the sun rise from the head of the people? No? Why didn’t they? It clearly says the sun rises from the people isn’t it?
Think. Think. Think.
They present the evidence to be examined, but only present part or parts of the evidence not the whole evidence. Thus how can you conclude something is wrong just by part or parts of evidence? How can you see the whole picture and meaning of that sentence if you only given that sentence without the other sentences that relates with it?
3) Quran is the words of God, everything there is like the God speaking to us in first person (He speak to us) when we read it. Every word, every sentence in the Quran is in the first person, spoken by God.
Here in this (18:83 – 18:91), Allah tell us (the one who read the Quran) that when someone ask us about Alexander, to tell that person his story. Explain to that person what happened to Alexander when he travelled here and there. Tell them what he sees and experienced. And what is that you’ve learned from Alexander story.
(18:83 – 18:91) is not Allah telling us that sun set in the ocean. No. You can read for yourself the whole passage, and then you’ll understand what it truly means.
Now, I give you this for example of first person speaking:
“This is the story of Jimmy. Jimmy goes to the beach. Then he found that the beach sand green.”
Now, I am the one said the words above. Does that mean I’m the one who found out the sand is green? Or is it Jimmy that found out the sand is green?
Think carefully. Then answer.
After you have answered that, now, I give you another example of first person speaking:
“I am Zaim. I take the metals found lying around and created a robot with those metals. I named the robot, Robin”
Now, I am the one who said the words above. Who created that robot? Who named that robot?
Think carefully. Then answer.
Now, which category do you think (18:83 – 1891) falls to?
I think you can find that answer yourself without me giving the answer.
The problem with people who doubted Quran is that they didn’t research it properly before they make allegations. Those who read it didn’t try to research the meaning but simply points when they encounter statement like this in the Quran. They didn’t try to understand it but simply looking for faults. How can you find faults in a text that you didn’t try to understand its true meaning?
Then, there are people who read the allegations against the Quran, and blindly accept and use those allegations to tell the Muslim that the Quran is wrong and thus their faith is wrong. But these people, who read the allegations, didn’t try to prove themselves that the allegations stand or not.
I’m as a Muslim; suggest that those who want to point a finger please research the Quran yourself. Try read and understand its meaning wholeheartedly, and if you can find a mistake then point it out to the Muslim.
Most of the accusations, fights, debate, feuds, allegations, pointing fingers and cursing of each other, so far is only based on your own opinion and what you read on the media but not because you have read the Quran itself understood its meaning and found out its mistake.
You say that we worship moon god. You say that the prophet Mohammad molested and have sex with child. You say that Islam allows abuse of women. You say that Islam required us to kill all non-Muslim. Masya-Allah.
You know why you said that? You make those accusations? That is because you didn’t read the Quran, AND understand it.
I can point that incest is allowed in Christianity (for example, I have no disrespect for Christian), because the Bible said so. But I’ll be stupid to say that unless I myself read the Bible and understand it.

where it says, ‘does the sun have a resting place’, is just a simple misunderstanding: The Quran is explaining the story of Zul Qurnain, some of who believe is Alexander the Great or king Cyprus of Persia. Nonetheless, God is not saying that the Sun has a resting place, he is merely telling a story from the point of view of Zul Qurnain, and you will easily understand that if you read that chapter of the Quran.
